Making Unique Format or Seal Design for Architectural Presentations

A sheet starts with a format and ends surrounded by it. A good format is one which depicts concept/theme of our proposals by it design/colors and is Unique. Sharing here workflow in photoshop tutorial of format or seal design for architectural presentations.

Here I present workflow of sheet format/seal design of my thesis project New Vidhan Sabha at Uttarakhand.
Let me share what I had in my mind. My designs driving words were Mountain within Mountains and therefore from my conceptual stage I was sure that my building will be playing with lots of triangle shapes representing mountains. Moreover the site for building was surrounded by beautiful hills.Hence I finalised that the format should display various triangle shapes.

Mimicking green and blue shades of distant hills, the triangles will have hues of green and blue. Also, I knew due to lots of solar panels and lots of greenery, blue and green will be dominating my presentation sheet colors. Therefore I finalised variety of triangles at bottom of sheet in hues of green and blue.

The steps below will tell you how to easily achieve the above mentioned thought into graphics with Brush Engine in Photoshop.

Step 1: Defining Brush.
Set Up new sheet A2 size. You might have a triangle shape brush but if not then define it. With Lasso Tool(L) and feather set to 0, make a triangle. When you see marching ants/selection Do foreground fill(Alt+backspace) to color it black {if foreground color is black(D)}. Now select EDIT>Define Brush Preset. Enter you desired name, triangle in this case. Now select brush (B) and scroll down to see your new defined brush. making format 1

Step 2. Setting Brush Panel.
Brush panel helps in customising the way our brush works. Select Windows>Brush or Press F5 or Click Brush Panel Icon . Click Brush Tip Shape. Increase brush spacing or else you will get a bold line instead of triangle shapes.
Select Shape Dynamics. It helps in giving variations to triangle sizes. I used this to imitate mountains having different heights.
Size Jitter tells amount of variation in brush size and minimum diameter sets the limit of variation. Also tick Flip X Jitters so that triangles flips at some places.
Angle jitter will rotate triangle at different degree’s which I din’t desire and roundness will distort shape which too was not desired.
Now select Color dynamics. This will give various hues of green and blue to triangle. Change the foreground color and background color to green and blue. Set foreground/background jitter to 50%. Reduce Hue jitter to 0% else you will see lot of colors with blue and green.
Select Transfer. Transfer helps in giving opacity to triangle shapes. This will amplify triangle feeling in format. Our brush is now ready for use.making format 2

Step 3. Applying Brush.
Make new layer. Rename to mountains. Apply brush(B) from left to right straight(pressing ctrl makes brush works in straight line). Now you can see, as soon as you stroke your brush, you see beautifully colored triangles in different size and opacities. If you are unsatisfied with spacing, color, opacities or sizes then change values in brush panel. Now duplicate (Ctrl+J) the mountain layer, transform (Ctrl+T) to flip horizontal. Then reduce the opacity to 30%(press 3) and move this duplicate layer below original layer. This gives effect of mountains which are behind. Merge down (Ctrl+E) layer and move to bottom of canvas.making format 3
