TRYST IIT Delhi Decoration Work : The 3D Logo
The 3D logo was installed in TRYST 2016, the Annual Techfest of IIT Delhi. The whole story behind the scene is as follows.
I was part of Creative Team with responsibility to prepare decorative works for 4 days of fest. During initial discussions of what all to do, the idea of making live TRYST logo sparked, which is influenced from the Dogra Hall Roof of IITD having a hyperbolic paraboloid shaped roof.
Inspiration:
We had theme FIFTH Dimension for TRYST 2016, from which I played around keywords – points, lines and dimension/shape formation. This gave me gut feeling to represent birth of shapes and not finished bulky 3D solid shapes. From web searches, a lot of searches, I met these two photos which made me sure that we were going in right direction. We finalised that we were going to represent the Hyperbolic paraboloid surface with lots and lots of lines.
Size and Dimensions:
We agreed to make this installation a big one as it was going to be a magnet for all the visitors during the fest. Keeping in mind the space we were being allotted to display, we decided to use a 3mx3m base. I worked out dimensions with respect to base and made google sketchup version too for reference purpose. Plus 3D models are handy to convey to team what we are going to make.
